It's getting so you don't really need much more than Google. As an example, there are now some great tools to let you synchronize your desktop or phone calendar with a Google calendar. Goosync (www.goosync.com) wirelessly synchronizes almost any phone with your Google calendar for free. And a great new app from Spanning Sync (www.spanningsync.com) now enables two-way synching between iCal and your Google calendar.

If you aren't among those who have been glued to the discussion boards at TreoCentral over the past few months, salivating in anticipation, you may be surprised to hear that there is a new Treo coming down the pike. It's called the Treo 650. And while it won't be widely available for 2-3 more months, I currently hold a shiny new one in my hands thanks to the kind folks at PalmOne. While the Treo 650 looks like the Treo 600 in most respects, it's a whole new beast on the inside:
- A crisp-as-paper new color screen with 4 times the resolution and 20 times the color palette.
- Internal bluetooth so you can talk on a wireless headset and sync to your laptop cable-free.
- Software changes galore and tons of new bundled applications
- And a new camera. A real camera. Finally.
There are lots of beefy articles on the new Treo 650 all over the web. I won't duplicate their effort here. But what they are all lacking is a side by side photo comparison of two cameras. I got that feeling today. You know the one. You read an article that sounds like a fake news story from some futuristic sci-fi movie. But it instead turns out to be true. Check this out:

Yes, they're manufacturing cats. Real living cats. And for $3500, you can be the first on your block. Personally, I'm going to hold out for the growth-stunted dogs that remain puppies for life (BTW, if that one comes to pass, I get royalties. You heard it here first.).
Many of you are probably not aware, but it is now possible to download almost any TV show--both current and previously aired shows--directly to your computer. MeiMei and I use it to keep up with all our favorite shows while on the road. Far from postage-stamp video clips, the quality is higher than what you'd see on the air or through your cable. In fact, much of the shows are in true HDTV resolution!
So how can you hop on this bleeding edge technology bandwagon? Read on.

The photo I took with my Treo doesn't begin to capture the madness in which I'm standing. So imagine this:
A sweeping eight story open atrium mall packed to the gills with innumerable scrappy technology vendors selling everything from flat-panel G5 iMacs to illegal boxes used to clone mobile phones. And filling the void between the virtually indistinguishable shops (each one competitively blaring unsustainable volumes of high-NRG techno in a vain attempt to 'stand out') are even more insane shops selling spindles of recordable CDs and DVDs, stacked by the million (quite literally) in MiniVan sized piles.
I'll never feel this way again.
As most of you know, our dog Indigo is a cyborg. In the scruff of his neck is a permanently implanted tiny microchip. When activated by a handheld reader, this microchip displays information about him as well as emergency contact info for us. This practice, called "chipping," has become so standard that most kennels won't accept a dog without one.
For years, MeiMei and I have been declaring that this is the wave of the future. It will start with people chipping their kids to address fears of abduction. Soon after, it will spread to people who want to carry their medical records or personal data or "Visa Chip" with them all the time. Imagine unlocking doors with a wave of your hand. Walking out of a grocery store with a box of cereal as the charge is deducted from your account--no checkout necessary.

A big part of the bomad experience is the technology. And, contrary to popular opinion, it's not the accumulation of technology but instead the divestiture that counts. How can you get one device to do two things and lighten your load? For example, Treo as phone, Treo as alarm clock, Treo as MP3 player, Treo as...you get the picture.
That said, it is with glee that I announce a new technology acquisition (and no, it's not another Treo):

Apparently, this is the philosophy of Real Networks, who weren't so happy about the feedback they were getting to their online petition targeting Apple.
You all remember our fantastic house in Grasse, in the south of France? Well...confession time...it wasn't really ours. You see, we have these amazing friends, Jan and Elizabeth Lodal (and their two rock-star kids Eric and Kirsten). And, well, they bought the house, so technically I guess that means it belongs to them. Either way, we weren't up for a West Side Story rumble or anything so when they came to knock on the door, we graciously vacated. Where was all this going...oh yeah...
For quite a while, Palm has been dissin' the Mac world. Their synchronization software has consistently been crap--unreliable and feature poor. And for just as long, some old friends of mine at Mark|Space software have bridged the gap with The Missing Sync.
And with the release of version 4 of The Missing Sync, the Mac now enjoys advantages over the PC in Syncing--just as in every other area...ahem... The list of ”Mac First” features, such as Bluetooth & WiFi sync support, Desktop mounting of memory cards, iPhoto plug in, iTunes plug in, USB & Bluetooth internet sharing, a Dock icon, and more make it well worth the $30 cost.
