At the Rubicon wine tasting event the other night, the vintner asked us to describe the 'nose' of his Cabernet Sauvingnon. "What's the 'nose'?" Yu Rhee asked. "It's the smell. You know, where most of the taste of the wine actually comes from," Dale replied.
At this point, Yu Rhee had an epiphany. "Ah! I finally understand why people of European, and not Asian, descent are the world's great wine makers -- they're better equipped for it!" She then proceeded to document the evidence:

A little makeup, some fake boobs, a pink boa, pink hair, and some hot pink capri pants. Who knew it could be that easy. I was Ziggy Stardust. I was a rock star.
The 2000+ people at club Zouk were all there for Singapore's biggest Halloween night party. Hundreds more waited eagerly in the entryway, like salmon clogging a mountain stream. Everyone was decked out in costume. There were lots of dracula-esque variants. Plenty of ghouls. But it was clear that no one expected anything like me. Because from the moment I arrived, I was greeted like a celebrity. The crowd parted and I was ushered in, no cover. Once inside, every time I rounded a corner, I was met with hundreds of cheering fans. My boobs were grabbed by both men and women in nearly equal numbers. Ladies, I have newfound sympathy...
It was quite an experience. I think this is what it's like to be famous and go out for the night. Everyone wants to be your friend. Crowds visibly gather around you. Everyone clamors to take a picture with you.
You'd think no one in Singapore had ever dressed in drag.
I got that feeling today. You know the one. You read an article that sounds like a fake news story from some futuristic sci-fi movie. But it instead turns out to be true. Check this out:

Yes, they're manufacturing cats. Real living cats. And for $3500, you can be the first on your block. Personally, I'm going to hold out for the growth-stunted dogs that remain puppies for life (BTW, if that one comes to pass, I get royalties. You heard it here first.).

I got an email today from my brother Derek, an astrophysicist at CalTech, and his wife Erica, an assistant professor of Chinese History and Asian Studies at USC. Apparently, they've stumbled across a movie called "I (Heart) Huckabees" that is a fascinating film adaptation of the book "Infinite Life." I served as freelance editor for this book on Tibetan Buddhism by Robert Thurman, PhD, a professor of Buddhism at Columbia University, former monk, and Uma's dad.
