Yes, I know. Oldest gag in the book. Right up there with the ditty about Bangkok. Yet we just had to gloat a bit after reaching one of the most beautiful places either of us has ever seen. As MeiMei so aptly said, "Croatia can kiss my ass." Have to echo that 100% myself.
We decided to spoil ourselves a bit and check into a luxury hotel for our first time on this trip. So we're at a stunning 5-star resort on the ocean with a room that has a swim-out terrace directly into the pool (you're looking at it) and amazing views of little huts that are lit by candles at night, the ocean, palm tress - all for $100 a night.
More from MeiMei:
"We stuffed ourselves on egg rolls and pho (Vietnamese noodles) and beer last night for the grand total of $4. It gives a new definition to the word "cheap." And yet it doesn't feel cheap at all. It's beautiful. And the nicest people on the face of the planet, with huge smiles who giggle every time you say a word in Balinese. The farewell is "Om santi santi santi om." I love that. I feel like the entire island is on a yoga retreat!
From here, we will head to Ubud, which is a supposedly beautiful city in the interior of the island with great temples. The shopping is terrific too, but we are still trying to hold back in that department. Perhaps we will find some nice art. I am also getting some work done this week on my Buddhism book and Dale's prepping up for a business trip to Singapore and Hong Kong."
As always, more to come.
Their farewells are wonderful, but you forgot common hellos. Presented here in various dialects:
"watersport?"--Conrad Bali dialect
"transport?"--Ubud dialect
"niiice priice"--Kuta dialect
Remember to smile anyway!
