no·mad (noh.mad) n. A member of a group of people who have no fixed home and move according to the seasons; a wanderer.
bo·bo (BOH.boh) n. A person who combines affluence and a successful career with a preference for countercultural ideas and artifacts.
Note: The word "bobo" is a blend of the phrase bourgeois bohemian, which has been in the language for a long time. The shortened form is the invention of journalist David Brooks, who described this species in his book Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There (Simon & Schuster, May 2000).
When I decided to up-end my life in San Francisco and adopt a mobile lifestyle, I coined the term "bomad™." For me, it captured an idea... traveling around the world in order to take best advantage of each location, working as I go. Oh, and carrying around enough technology to impress the CIA -- laptops, Treo global phones with wireless internet access, digital camera, DV camcorder, iPod, portable speaker system, and enough firewire and USB cables to wire a small office. Not exactly roughing it! But the rule was just one suitcase and one small backpack. I sold nearly everything else, put just 12 boxes into storage, loaned my artwork to friends, and took off.
To keep you, my friends and family, in the loop I created this site. It's a mix of my photos and writing, as well as links to all things that interest me -- travel, technology, politics and more. From there, it has evolved into much much more, with readership spanning the globe and a loyal following of thousands (my thanks and appreciation to you all).
So step on up and jump right in. Welcome to the Bomad lifestyle...

Why the trademark symbol by the bomad name?
